California: The Experimental Society

In 1967, the novelist Wallace Stegner wrote:  “Like the rest of America, California is unformed, innovative, ahistorical, hedonistic, acquisitive, and energetic — only more so.”

Our vision for the Northwestern University alumni experience on the West Coast is just as Mr. Stegner saw California. Many of you experienced an initial taste of this vision at our September event held on the grounds of the historic Filoli estate.

Following this message, you will receive a robust schedule of initial events that we have planned over the next twelve months. The number of events scheduled for the NU Club of San Francisco exceeds the number of planned events for all other NU alumni clubs combined.

We are extremely proud of, not only the quantity of our event offerings, but especially of their quality and variety. As has been stated before, our mission is to share and to extend the Evanston experience. We are intentionally incorporating a uniquely California perspective in as many events as possible. By doing this we are melding the best of two pioneering American institutions: Northwestern University and the great State of California.
